Urbanics was retained by a major landowner in Abbotsford to provide an economic, market, and financial assessment of a mixed-use development concept including office, residential, retail, residential, hotel, and institutional land uses for a 140-acre site. Given the proponent’s desire to capitalize on a quickly expanding technology sector in British Columbia, the project also required specialized research into the suitability of the site to attract large technology firms and institutions. Urbanics conducted a comprehensive land use marketability study to determine under what circumstances each land use could be rationalized at the envisioned scale. Furthermore, a number of strategic recommendations were made with the aim of providing the client with guidance on how to maximize the probability of securing marquee tenants. Following completion of the study in July 2018, Urbanics was retained to advise the client in ongoing discussions with municipal staff.
